To ensure that Montenegro meets EU human rights standards, the Foundation Open Society Institute–Representative Office Montenegro has acted as a watchdog as well as provided training to civil society groups to monitor, report, and litigate cases involving human rights violations. The foundation has helped increase the organizational capacity of Roma groups and support their efforts in ensuring that the government is effectively implementing its national strategy for Roma inclusion. The foundation has strongly supported women’s rights, raising awareness among policymakers and the broader public around issues such as domestic violence.
The foundation’s efforts to curb electoral corruption and increase democratic participation in elections have contributed to the adoption of new funding laws for political parties.
