Carlos Javier Ortiz is partnering with the Chicago Youth Boxing Club on “Too Young to Die,” a project to mobilize young people from Chicago’s Little Village, North Lawndale, and Cicero communities who have been affected by violence. Youth are designing a multi-media exhibition (to coincide with a community safety event and amateur youth boxing tournament), a collage poster, and a social media website, as well as facilitating discussions and workshops. Ortiz's goal is to work with impacted youth and their families to better understand the root causes of violence, highlight constructive alternatives that already exist in their communities, and propose and promote long-term solutions and policy changes.
