Jean-Marie Simon will partner with the Oficina de Derechos Humanos del Arzobispado de Guatemala and Estudio A2 to create a newspaper supplement and a multilingual DVD based on Simon's book Guatemala: Eternal Spring, Eternal Tyranny, which documents the height of Guatemala’s civil war in the 1980s.The newspaper supplement will contain eighty images, including previously unpublished photos of Guatemala’s under-chronicled war. The DVD will be shown at public screenings (in the capital, where selective disappearances occurred, and in the countryside, where the Army conducted mass killings).

The goal of the project is to reach both those directly affected by the war (especially underrepresented and rural sectors), and the generation born after the war ended, in order to prompt healing and reconciliation, and to ensure that Guatemala’s civil war and its effects not be forgotten.

This project was cofunded by the Open Society Foundations Documentary Photography Project and Latin America Program.
