Beyond 2008 Vancouver Consultation
"Beyond 2008" involves regional consultations, which will result in reports being submitted to the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in 2008, providing input from civil society on the global drug control system. Two consultations are taking place in North America. One, hosted by the Drug Free America Foundation in St. Petersburg, Florida, excludes NGOs which support harm reduction.
The other, hosted by CARBC, Keeping the Door Open, and the city of Vancouver, will be held in Vancouver and seeks to provide an open dialogue for all NGOs. The Vancouver consultation will allow representatives from those NGOs across North America with an interest in international drug policy to meet and exchange knowledge and ideas about the international context of their work as well as to provide an important means of informing public discourse about the 10-year review of the 1998 UNGASS drug control efforts.
Participation in Beyond 2008 Forum
The Vienna Forum provides an opportunity for NGOs to present their views on what direction drug policy should take over the next 10 years. Funding was requested to fund the travel, accommodation and per diems of five delegates representing harm reduction organizations as well as consulting costs for one person representing Keeping the Door Open.
