Drug policy in Colombia: Towards a more balanced approach
This grant is to support a thorough, independent economic evaluation of anti-drug policies in producer countries, with a special focus on Colombia. While CEDE's previous project, the Economic Evaluation of Plan Colombia, focused on enforcement policies for reducing drug supply, this follow-up project aims to concentrate advocacy for a more balanced approach. As a result, a new, policy oriented book about the different aspects of Colombia's drug policy will be published with the following objectives:
- Provide and independent, academic evaluation of anti-drug policies implemented in Colombia under the so-called Plan Colombia during the last 8 years.
- Quantify different measures of the costs, effectiveness and efficiency of anti-drug policies in Colombia and evaluate their future prospects.
- Provide very concrete policy recommendations aimed at designing more sound anti-drug policies and a more balanced (and effective) approach to drug policy in Colombia.
