Pilot Regional Coordination of Civil Society Drug Policy Advocacy in Eastern Europe and Central Asia
EHRN is a membership-based network that aims to promote evidence-based drug policy which supports public health and human rights on a national and international level, while also promoting a harm reduction approach to mitigate problems related to drug use such as HIV, hepatitis, overdose or social isolation. To increase the body of evidence available for the CND meeting and create a more transparent approach to policy-making, EHRN will support civil society in Albania, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, and Ukraine to engage in monitoring of and development of human rights and health-based drug policies as well as facilitate the civil society input into the preparation to CND 52nd session to take place in Vienna in March 2009.
Objectives include advocating sound drug policy by civil society at a national level in four countries, and at the international level; increasing the capacity of civil society to understand and advocate sound drug policy; and building a regional network of drug policy advocates. Regional activists will be trained and a number of publications will be prepared including a drug policy advocacy toolkit, and Russian translations of several key documents.
