Legal Monitoring Actions in Support of Harm Reduction
The Helsinki Foundation, a highly respected institution in Poland, aims to improve the observance of basic human rights of individuals dependent on psychoactive substances. To do this, it proposes two courses of action: monitoring and legal assistance.
A team of experts will monitor the observance of opiate dependent patients' rights in 30 treatment centers around Poland, including living conditions, treatments, the right to privacy, information, and education. A report and a set of recommendations will then be prepared for policymakers, on which NGOs working in this area will be invited to comment. Findings will be summarized and discussed at a conference specially organized.
