War Against HIV Not Drug Users
Around 21% of drug users in Pakistan are HIV positive, a clear indication that drug policies are working against the interests of public health. With the aim of conveying this key message to policy makers and other stakeholders, PNAC proposes to draw up a report which describes the present situation regarding drug policy laws and practices in Pakistan.
Its findings will be widely distributed among high level government officials and all interested parties. Six review meetings will then be held across the country to collect recommendations. In each consultation, 30 people representing the local authorities and civil society will take part. Finally, a national consultation forum will take place in Islamabad at which the findings from the six review meetings will be discussed by key stakeholders from HIV/AIDS drug programs, policymakers and government representatives.
