Drugs, Health, and Justice: Perspectives on Race Equality

The purpose of the grant is to provide support to the T3E Spring University in Oerias (Portugal), near Lisbon for seminar presentations. From June 7-9, 2010 the following goals and outcomes are to be achieved using seminar formats and interactive presentations:

  • Provide a critical conceptual and international context on racism, drugs and criminal justice, with speakers from US and Europe, as well as a special requested satellite session with speakers from Bolivia, Brazil, Peru and Venezuela.
  • Consult on draft findings and recommendations from the CONNECTIONS Project's research in nine EU countries, evaluating how equitably the needs of drug using offenders from visible minorities are being met and what can be done to enhance equality of provision;
  • Involve study partners and key stakeholders, including users in highlighting good practice;
  • Produce a consensus statement on good policy, procedure and practice for debate, endorsement and adoption.
