Youth RISE Network Development and Sustainability

The purpose of the grant is to support to strengthen and ensure the sustainability of Youth RISE through: training and development, strategic planning and capacity building.

Training and development: members of the network will be trained and supported in areas such as leadership skills; advocacy skills; specific knowledge requirements e.g. UN systems; funding strategies. Focus will be given to ensuring that knowledge and skills are easily transferred to new members.

Strategic planning and capacity building: this will be the remit of the Youth RISE International Working Group (in conjunction with the International Harm Reduction Association 2009 Conference in Bangkok (Thailand), between April 20-23, 2009. It is intended that the network's directors meet in person at the International Harm Reduction Association (IHRA) Conference 2009 to participate in an annual meeting. The core aim of the meeting will be to discuss the strategic development of Youth RISE International Working Group and participate in skills-building opportunities, which will provide for transfer of knowledge to other young people through regional dissemination.

Youth RISE International Working Group will constantly require new people to come through and quickly take up leadership roles when existing staff get older. It will be imperative to have support systems in place to ensure that young people from all over the world have opportunity to get involved with Youth RISE International Working Group activities.
