A grant to support the Mediae Company for the production, related outreach, and follow-up research of three episodes of the television drama series Makutano Junction, broadcast to more then 20 million viewers throughout Africa. The characters and setting of Makutano Junction are placed in familiar contexts, such as the town’s market place or health clinic, to play out many of the struggles and the successes of daily life in Africa. With this support, the series integrated main story lines to address the issue of sex work through different characters and scenarios. Makutano Junction has proven to be a successful tool in building public knowledge, changing public perception around important issues, and contributing to important, widespread social change.
