Access to Information Campaign in Uganda Based on Current Realities
Human Rights Network Uganda (HURINET-U) generates awareness among civil society members and government officials on the right to information and promotes citizen participation in a campaign for the implementation of the right to information (RTI) law. In cooperation with the Law Development Centre, HURINET-U runs a legal aid clinic where they train the legal community on RTI issues. HURINET-U continues work on its RTI campaign, which concentrates on media relations and pursues strategic litigation to create precedents on debated RTI issues. In addition, HURINET-U conducts analysis of laws that contravene provisions of the Access to Information Act, and challenges their constitutionality before the courts.
