The Open Society Initiative for East Africa (OSIEA) with Dr. Migai Achek from the School of Law at the University of Nairobi are undertaking a one-year study to assess the nature and extent of pretrial detention in Kenya’s criminal justice system, and efforts underway to advance reform. Based on the research, the study will suggest policy and legislative interventions. OSIEA will use the civil society mapping component of the study to develop a strategy for intervention.
