The Open Society Foundations U.S. Programs aims to address core threats to open society, including increasingly punitive national security policies, decreasing government transparency, entrenched structural racism, and growing incarceration rates.

  • ACLU Foundation of Southern California 2006

    A grant to work with experienced correctional experts and County officials to create an innovative reform model for the Los Angeles County jail system.

    A fellowship to launch a project to develop reentry and reintegration strategies for immigrants facing criminal charges and convictions.

    A grant to spotlight the delivery of health services in smaller communities, particularly in Mississippi, and highlight the importance of reducing economic and health disparity in the Gulf Region and beyond.

  • Angela Chan 2006

    A fellowship to launch a juvenile justice project utilizing litigation, education, and policy advocacy to obtain equal access for Asian Pacific Islander families to participate in the rehabilitation of their youth.

  • Annette Foglino 2006

    A grant to write articles about citizens who have made personal commitments to rebuilding their communities after Hurricane Katrina.
