The Open Society Foundations U.S. Programs aims to address core threats to open society, including increasingly punitive national security policies, decreasing government transparency, entrenched structural racism, and growing incarceration rates.

  • A New Faith Community 2012

    A grant to improve services by developing a fundraising and strategic plan, and engage in a program evaluation.

  • Advocates for Children and Youth, Inc. 2012

    A grant to promote statewide school discipline reform and ensure that all of Baltimore’s children have access to high quality education and school facilities.

  • Advocates for Children and Youth, Inc. 2012

    A grant to engage in public education and advocacy efforts to advance juvenile justice reform in Maryland.

  • Alliance for a Just Society 2012

    A grant to provide general support in the amount of $500,000.00 and project support in the amount of $200,000.00 to support the Main Street Alliance.

  • Amanda Alexander 2012

    Through direct legal services, client education, targeted litigation, and advocacy, Detroit native Amanda Alexander will work to minimize the ways an entire family suffers when a parent is incarcerated.

  • Amanda Aronczyk 2012

    Aronczyk will produce a radio documentary and report on the financial barriers people face upon leaving prison and how this impacts families and communities.

  • American Bar Association Fund for Justice and Education 2012

    A grant to renew project support for the work of the Standing Committee on Judicial Independence.

  • American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Maryland, Inc. 2012

    A grant to secure adequate state and city funding for public schools in Baltimore City, and to ensure through education and advocacy that management and funding reform translate into better schools for Baltimore’s children.

  • American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Maryland, Inc. 2012

    A grant to promote housing choice and dismantle residential segregation in Maryland by reforming the state’s Low-Income Housing Tax Credit system and maximizing the resources created by the recent Thompson v. HUD litigation.

  • American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists 2012

    A grant to design and garner support for a model of health care that improves the recruitment and retention of substance-using women in treatment and preserves the unity of the family.
