Money to the People: Can Mineral Wealth End Poverty in Africa? (March 24, 2014)

In his upcoming report Money to the People, Marcelo Giugale makes the case for direct dividend transfers. He proposes that distributing even a small fraction of Africa's hydrocarbon and mineral wealth, or of official development assistance, directly to individuals could be enough to eradicate poverty in the region.

Giugale’s work focuses on how best to help Africa’s population benefit from the wealth generated by the continent’s natural resources. His most recent book, Economic Development: What Everyone Needs to Know, explores new tools for poverty alleviation related to issues including education, health, infrastructure, technology, and foreign aid.

  • Alexandra Gillies, Head of Governance at Revenue Watch Institute
