Alexandra Cherkasenko is an asociate legal officer for the Open Society Justice Initiative. Based in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, she oversees efforts to use litigation to combat torture by police in Central Asia.
Prior to joining the Justice Initiative, Cherkasenko worked at the American University of Central Asia’s legal clinic, providing consultations and legal representation for vulnerable clients, and also lectured at the AUCA International and Business Law Department. In addition, she worked as a legal protection officer with the Danish Refugee Council in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, and was a practicing lawyer at a Bishkek-based consulting company.
Cherkasenko received her LLM degree from the Central European University and her bachelor’s degree from the American University of Central Asia.
