From June 2011 to July 2012, Janie Chuang was an Open Society Fellow, working to reframe human trafficking as a labor-migration problem and identify appropriate remedies for both source and destination countries.
Chuang previously served as a trafficking consultant to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva and Colombo, where she participated in negotiations over the Trafficking Protocol for the UN Convention on Transnational Organized Crime. She has also served as a legal officer for the UN Compensation Commission in Switzerland and has represented foreign governments in international litigation as well as pro bono asylum and human rights cases.
