Jean-Paul Moatti is professor of health economics at Aix-Marseille University (South-Eastern France) and director of a research unit in economic and social sciences applied to health supported by the French national Institute of Health (INSERM) and the Institute for Research in Developing Countries. In 2011, he was appointed director of the Institute of Public Health for the Alliance of Health and Life Sciences, which coordinates all publicly funded research in the field at the French national level.
For most of his career, Moatti has been actively involved in research about access to HIV prevention and treatment and issues related to equity in health systems in both developed and developing countries. He has been an advisor to the executive director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Moatti obtained a PhD in economics at the University of Paris I and is a member of the Advisory Committee of Health Research of the World Health Organization.
