As co-chair of the Roma Policy Board, Kálmán Mizsei contributes to coordinating the policies of the Open Society foundations’ various Roma related programs and advises George Soros on Roma policies. As chair of the Making the Most of EU Funds for Roma Inclusion program, he has overseen distribution of grants aimed at linking Roma communities to EU funds in five EU member states as well as seven Balkan countries, in the amount of several million euros per year.
Previously, Mizsei was the European Union Special Representative for the Republic of Moldova, a position that allowed him to contribute to Moldova’s democratic development and European integration, as well as to solving the frozen Transnistrian conflict. From 2001 to 2006, Mizsei was the director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS at UNDP. From 1995 to 1997, he served as chair of the Hungarian Export Import Bank. Mizsei holds a PhD from the Budapest University of Economics.
