Katalin E. Koncz directs the Budapest office, which acts as administrative and operational headquarters for a number of Open Society initiatives, including arts and culture, higher education, human rights and governance grants, and guides programs and grantmaking for the Open Society Roma Initiatives.

Koncz studied economics and economic history at the Budapest University of Economics. After researching and teaching at the Budapest University of Economics for nine years, she served as executive director of the Democracy after Communism Foundation, a Hungarian nonprofit organization devoted to the educational and professional training needs of young Central and Eastern Europeans.

Koncz has also served as the editorial secretary for the Budapest Review of Books. She became executive director of the Open Society’s Budapest office in 1993.
