Katya Szarvas is a program coordinator with the Open Society Justice Initiative, working on legal remedies for torture. Szarvas holds MA degrees in Russian and English language and literature from Eötvös Loránd University, as well as one in international affairs from the University of Economics in Budapest. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in human rights at the University of Leicester. She worked previously for the Energy Regulators Regional Association, a voluntary organization of independent energy regulatory bodies in the region encompassing Central and Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. In 2007, Szarvas joined the Open Society Justice Initiative as a program associate, working on legal aid and community empowerment clinics.
