Lisa Magarrell is the Campaign Manager of the Open Society Foundations National Security and Human Rights Campaign, which supports U.S.-based organizations working to promote national security policies that respect human rights, civil liberties, and the rule of law.

Prior to joining the Foundations, Magarrell spent 11 years at the International Center for Transitional Justice supporting initiatives for truth, justice, and reparations in countries emerging from periods of repression or conflict. Earlier in her career, Magarrell engaged in legal advocacy with a Salvadoran human rights organization and in verification of peace accords as a UN Political Affairs Officer in Guatemala. She also performed legal work on behalf of political asylum-seekers and migrant farmworkers in Washington State.

Magarrell received her BA and JD from the University of Iowa, a law degree from the University of El Salvador, and an LLM from Columbia Law School, where she was also a Human Rights Fellow. She has published extensively on transitional justice topics and on national security and human rights.
