Robert Kushen

Robert Kushen is the executive director of the Roma Decade Secretariat Foundation, chair of the board of directors of the European Roma Rights Centre, and vice chair of the Roma Education Fund board. Previously, he was the executive director of the Harvard PEPFAR program, which provided HIV treatment services to over 100,000 patients in three countries in Africa.

Kushen is a senior advisor to the president of the Open Society Foundations. Prior to this, he held positions as the Foundations’ deputy director, special counsel, and director of international operations. He has also worked as executive director of Doctors of the World and as an attorney-advisor in the U.S. Department of State. Kushen serves as secretary to the boards of the Mental Disability Advocacy Centre and the Empower Foundation, and is a member of the Research Ethics Board of Population Services International.

He has a degree in law from Columbia University and in Russian and Soviet studies from Harvard College.
