Rukmini Bhaya Nair is a professor of linguistics and English at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi. She received her PhD from the University of Cambridge and has taught at several universities, including the National University of Singapore and Stanford University in the United States. Author of several academic books and papers, Nair was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Antwerp in 2006. Her latest award is a senior fellowship for a project on “Contemporary Indian Keywords” and her latest major grant is from the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology to conduct basic research in cognition on the theme of “Language, Emotion and Culture.” Nair is editor of Biblio, a leading Indian review journal. She is a president’s nominee to two central universities, a senate member of two others, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study. One of India’s leading poets, Nair’s creative and critical writings have been included in courses at Harvard University, Oxford University, and the University of Chicago.
