In a report for The Nation, 2010 Soros Justice Media Fellows Renée Feltz and Stokely Baksh explore how the Obama administration is trying to salvage its Secure Communities immigration enforcement program, even as governors and advocates alike say it leads to racial profiling.
While Secure Communities is supposed to target “dangerous criminal aliens,” the Nation article points out that this "has been undermined by ICE's [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's] own data, which show that the majority of those it deports have no criminal record or were charged with minor offenses like traffic tickets."
Feltz and Baksh follow Secure Communities and other immigration issues for DeportationNation.org, home to their independent investigative reporting project that critically examines deportation of innocent and low-level immigrant offenders as a result of enforcement programs mandated to target “dangerous criminal aliens.”

It seems that arresting and deporting peaceful illegal immigrants is harsh, but it is still the law, unfortunate tho it might be. If this man is raising his daughters, are they illegal as well? Do they know their father has illegal standing in the US and are they ignoring the law, as well? We do have laws for a reason, and we have a congress that makes and changes them. To this date, illegal means against the law...sorry, but true.
DRIVING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS CRIMINALS WOES. HE HAS ALREADY GOTTEN BETTER THAN HE DESERVES. Illegal is Illegal. Period. He should be deported immediatley back to his country of origin. If his children are minors and citizens, they should be put in foster care or sent back with him. Mr. Licea should also be billed for all transportation costs involved and be made to pay for all social benefits he took (stole)from tax payers during his criminal stay here. American citizens are growing sick and tired of Mr. Licea and other criminals of his ilk. Feel free to email me at TakeOursBack@gmail.com
My Grandparents came to this country in the early
1940's from Hugary. They applied for their papers
through legal channels'and never received any
government handouts.
I think all illegal's breaking the Law should be
deported because they have no respect for the
Host Country and it's citizens.
Nicely done, Renee & Stokely!
What many people (including the previous commenters) fail to realize is that there are civil laws and criminal laws, and that breaking some laws and regulations (traffic, immigration, etc.) does not make a person a "criminal." A lot of people also don't understand that there is effectively no way for most people to "get in line" and go "through legal channels" to immigrate.
