Shawn Dove Talks on KPCC Radio
By Stephanie Ramirez-Burnett
New York City Mayor Bloomberg and the Open Society Foundations' Campaign for Black Male Achievement are championing a major initiative to improve the success and life outcomes of black and Latino boys and ensure that our communities as a whole are healthier and stronger.
Shawn Dove, manager of the campaign, recently explained the purpose of the new Young Men's Initiative and the rationale behind it in an interview with NPR affiliate KPCC in Los Angeles. Dove explains the Foundations' long-standing commitment to helping these vulnerable populations and why past programs have failed. He also discusses how this is an integrated approach to the issue that will address low graduation rates, high poverty rates, and unemployment among young black and Latino men.
Until August 2015, Stephanie Ramirez-Burnett was a program associate with the Justice Fund of U.S. Programs.
