One year

FIERCE, an organization that builds the leadership and power of LGBTQ youth of color in New York City, will partner with Marvin Taylor on “Queer Pier: 40 Years,” an exhibition and community archiving project that will serve as a tool ongoing grassroots organizing and leadership development programs.

The project includes a one-day "Build Your Own Archive" event in December 2010 that draws upon an existing archive celebrating ten years of FIERCE’s work, and encourages participants to contribute to this archive. The collected materials will be added to a web-based digital archive that will be used for outreach and as a training tool for arts-based activism workshops facilitated by local queer artists throughout the year. The goal of the project is to highlight how the West Village Piers have historically served as a cultural space for queer and trans youth of color and to advance FIERCE’s campaign for a 24-hour drop-in center in the West Village for this community.
