Paida Chikate is a 2016 Open Society Presidential Fellow. Chikate is interested in public service, global citizenship, and solidarity with marginalized populations, specifically women. She graduated this spring with a master’s in public policy from the University of Minnesota and holds a bachelor’s in English and Gender Studies from the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University in Minnesota.
While in Minnesota, Chikate was a graduate teaching assistant for the course, Managing Conflict and Negotiation, and for the PNLC in charge of organizing the State and Local Government Innovation Awards. She has had internships at the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota, at the OKC Youth Center in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and at the Center for Women Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. She has served as a strategic planning and implementation consultant for the MN Governor’s office. She is fluent in several languages: Shona, Ndebele, Xhosa, and Zulu.
