A grant to increase meaningful sex worker participation in the 2008 International AIDS Conference (IAC) and in the planning processes for the conference so that sex workers can use the IAC as an effective platform to advocate for a return to evidence informed and rights based approaches to HIV prevention, treatment and care. Activities supported under this grant include: support for sex worker participation in local and international conference committees; creation of a sex workers’ networking area; training of local volunteers from sex worker groups; training volunteer translators; development of sex workers’ cultural activities for the global village and the cultural program; information and brief orientation training for first-time presenters; online discussions (e-list and web based boards); development and printing of fact sheets, banners, advocacy materials, etc.; travel and attendance support; and a networking party for sex workers and their allies.
