The Gathering for Justice (the Gathering) was founded in 2005 in response to growing youth incarceration rates and disproportionate incarceration of youth of color. The Gathering seeks to build a national inter-generational movement for the 21st century focused on ending child incarceration and addressing broader racial disparities. This grant is to support the Gathering's regional Chicago and Milwaukee leadership development and organizing trainings, which will equip black males with the advocacy and facilitation skills to address structural inequities in their communities through grassroots mobilization and non-violent campaign organizing. The Gathering will leverage their advocacy training to foster collaborative relationships between organizations in Chicago and Milwaukee, in order to develop shared strategies for multi-issue policy advocacy and community change.
This grant was co-funded with US Programs' Democracy and Power Fund for a total grant of $100,00 over one year.
