Dominic Ongwen, a former military leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army rebel group headed by Joseph Kony, is charged by the International Criminal Court with 67 counts of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Northern Uganda.

Ongwen surrendered himself to United States forces in the Central African Republic in January 2015. He was previously the leader of the Sinia Brigade, one of four brigades of the LRA. He was abducted by the LRA in 1988 when he was 13 or 14 years old, but then rose through the ranks to become one of its top leaders.
