Andre M. Davis has been a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit since 2009. Upon graduating from law school, Davis served as law clerk to Judge Frank A. Kaufman and then to Judge Francis D. Murnaghan, Jr. He also served as an appellate attorney for the Civil Rights Division for the U.S Department of Justice and as an Assistant United States Attorney in Baltimore. In 1987, Davis was appointed as associate judge of the District Court of Maryland for Baltimore City. Next, he was appointed as associate judge of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. In 1995, Davis was nominated and confirmed to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
Davis received a BA in American history from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971, and graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1978.
