Chancellar Williams is a program officer with the democracy team of the Open Society Foundations’ U.S. Programs, overseeing grant making related to journalism and media and communications technology policy.
Previously, Williams coordinated successful federal advocacy campaigns to protect the open internet, expand broadband access, promote diverse and independent media ownership, and stop industry consolidation as associate policy director at Free Press, a leading national nonprofit organization dedicated to communications rights. While at Free Press, he also worked to advance policy solutions that support nonprofit journalism and protect the rights of journalists. Prior to joining Free Press, Williams was advocacy manager for the Media and Democracy Coalition. He serves on the steering committee of the Media Democracy Fund.
Williams earned his BA from Miami University and an MPS from the Clinton School of Public Service at the University of Arkansas.
