Heather R. Benjamin is a program officer with the Open Society Public Health Program’s Global Health Financing Initiative. She mobilizes resources for the health and human rights of socially excluded people, promotes new sources of money through innovative financing mechanisms, and supports grassroots participation in health financing and policymaking.
Prior to joining Open Society, Benjamin served as the program director for Close to Home, a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to preventing and reducing the impact of domestic and sexual violence. As a consultant, she has provided technical assistance and training to NGOs on a range of issues across the United States and internationally. She has expertise in community organizing, training and technical assistance, managing organizational change, facilitating community participation, campaign strategy and tools, youth leadership development, and crisis intervention.
Benjamin holds a master’s in social policy from Columbia University School of Social Work and is a member of the International Steering Committee of the Red Umbrella Fund.
