Jennifer Leaning is the Francois Xavier Bagnoud Professor of the Practice of Health and Human Rights at the Harvard School of Public Health and director of the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University. She teaches disaster management, human rights, and response to humanitarian crises. Leaning also serves on a number of nonprofit boards, including the board of directors of the American Red Cross and the Humane Society of the United States. From 2004 to 2010, Leaning was co-director of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. She has extensive field experience in disaster response and human rights around the world and has played an influential role in Physicians for Human Rights and Physicians for Social Responsibility. Her research and policy interests include problems of international human rights and international humanitarian law, humanitarian crises, and medical ethics in practical settings of disasters and emergencies.
