Kinga Göncz

Kinga Göncz is a Hungarian academic and the former foreign minister of Hungary. In 2009, she headed the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) European election list and was subsequently elected as one of 22 Hungarian Members of the European Parliament. Since 1972, Göncz has worked as a psychiatrist, a public health policy administrator, and as a professor at ELTE University and Central European University in Budapest. In 2002, she was appointed political state secretary of the Ministry for Health, Social and Family Affairs responsible for civil coordination. Between 2004 and 2006, she served as minister without portfolio for equal opportunities and then as minister of youth, family, social affairs and equal opportunities in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány. From 2006 to 2009, she served as Hungary’s minister of foreign affairs.
