Maina Kiai is the United Nations special rapporteur for Freedom of Assembly and Association. He also codirects InformAction, a Kenyan human rights NGO that uses documentary film and community-based debate to advance rights. Before founding InformAction, Kiai was the chair of the Kenyan National Human Rights Commission. Prior to this, he was the founder and first director of the Kenya Human Rights Commission, the country’s leading human rights organization. Kiai has also served in leadership roles in a number of prominent international human rights organizations.
