Martin Schoenteich is senior managing legal officer on national criminal justice reform with the Open Society Justice Initiative. Based in the Washington, D.C., office, Schoenteich previously worked as a senior researcher for the Institute for Security Studies’ Crime and Justice Programme in Pretoria, South Africa.
He worked as Parliamentary Affairs Manager for the South African Institute of Race Relations in 1997-98, where he undertook policy related advocacy and research work on issues affecting criminal justice and civil liberties in South Africa. For three years, Schoenteich worked as a public prosecutor for the South African Department of Justice. He is an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
