Peter Nizak is manager at the Open Society Initiative for Europe. Nizak leads the work on reclaiming local public spheres in Central Europe, which aims to strengthen, revive, and widen the constituencies that support open society values. This portfolio builds on the experiences of the Hungary Project and the Emergency Fund Hungary Project, which Nizak directed when he joined Open Society in 2008.
Prior to this, Nizak had worked in the Hungarian NGO sector since 1991. His previous roles included program coordinator of the Independent Ecological Center, executive director of the DemNet Foundation, program director of the Civil Society Development Foundation, and executive director of the Hungarian Soros Foundation.
Nizak chairs the Civil Review Foundation which publishes the Civil Review quarterly journal and lectures at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest on civil society and third sector issues.
