Stephen Song

Steve Song is the founder of Village Telco, a social enterprise whose mission is to make launching a telephone company as easy as starting a wordpress blog. Village Telco was created during a three-year fellowship that Song spent at the Shuttleworth Foundation in South Africa. Prior to joining Shuttleworth, he worked at the International Development Research Centre for 10 years, during which time he led the Information Communication Technology and Development program in Africa, funding research into the transformational potential for information and communications technology across the continent. Song recently worked as the lead researcher of a South African case study examining spectrum policy for the Association for Progressive Communications. He has traveled extensively in Africa, including a solo trip from Cape Town to Cairo by motorcycle in 1994.  Song studied Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Toronto.
