Statement on Grant and Scholarship Scams

The Open Society Foundations have learned of fraudulent offers for scholarships and grants advertised online and through other means. The scams are typically being perpetrated on fake social media and email accounts that have misappropriated the name of George Soros and the Open Society Foundations to extract money or personal information from unsuspecting victims.

This kind of fraud is sometimes designed to deceive targets into revealing personal information such as home address, telephone number, credit card information, and bank account numbers to identity thieves. Often the message claims that the person has been chosen to receive a cash grant or donation.

The Open Society Foundations and its affiliated entities do not and will not solicit money or personal information in this way. Please be advised that the Open Society Foundations are in no way associated with nor responsible for these messages that misrepresent our organization.
