The Open Society Foundations have learned of fraudulent offers for scholarships advertised online. The scams are being perpetrated on fake social media accounts that have misappropriated the name of George Soros and the Open Society Foundations to extract money or personal information from unsuspecting victims.
This kind of fraud is sometimes designed to deceive targets into revealing personal information such as home address, telephone number, credit card, and bank account numbers to identity thieves. Often the message claims that the person has been chosen to receive a cash grant or donation.
The Open Society Foundations and its affiliated entities do not and will not solicit money or personal information in this way. Please be advised that the Open Society Foundations are in no way associated with or responsible for these messages that misrepresent our organization.
