Ian Mance will use powerful and newly-available statistical evidence to expose and directly challenge the systemic practice of racial profiling in several North Carolina counties.

Mance is a 2013 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law. As a law student, he participated in the school’s Civil Legal Assistance Clinic, worked as a researcher for the North Carolina Task Force on Racial and Ethnic Bias in the Criminal Justice System, and investigated, developed, and drafted civil rights complaints against police agencies in cases involving extreme excessive force and wrongful death. Prior to law school, he worked at the ACLU of North Carolina, where he directed the North Carolina Taser Safety Project, an effort that led to the adoption of new use-of-force policies in more than a quarter of he counties using Tasers statewide.
