Left Out: Access of Roma to Health Care

OSI’s Roma Health Project organized a panel discussion, “Left Out: Access of Roma to Health Care,” within the framework of the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) 2007 annual conference, "Health in the Enlarged European Union." The conference aimed to showcase the impact of European Enlargement on the health of citizens, with specific attention to Central and South Eastern European countries.

The panel discussion, moderated by Roma Health Project consultant Tamsin Rose, brought together 28 participants from 16 European countries. Discussion focused on health and human rights of minorities in an expanding Europe. Roma Health Project partners and grantees the Initiative for Health Foundation (Bulgaria), Open Society Foundation Bratislava (Slovakia), Equal Opportunities for Women and Children NGO (Romania), and Romani C.R.I.S.S. (Romania) shared concrete examples and lessons learned from their projects promoting Roma access to health services.
