Open Society Fellow Asim Rafiqui’s discusses his fellowship project, which uses photography and other media to examine the question of justice in Pakistan and how the law is actually experienced by the most marginalized communities in the country. Among others, he has interviewed ex-death row prisoners; victims of police torture; religious minorities, such as the Hazara; and informal laborers in garment factories. His project explores how questions of justice are interpreted and questions the social, cultural, political, and economic factors that cripple the possibility of an equitable and just judicial system.
During this conversation, Rafiqui spoke of the role of photography and other media in promoting social change and shared some of the photography and multimedia work on his project website.
