Please join us for a panel discussion on the state of human rights in Turkmenistan. Ruslan Myatiev will speak about prison conditions and show excerpts from his new film Turkmenistan: Life Behind Bars. Kate Watters will speak about the Prove They Are Alive campaign, the goal of which is to uncover the fate of hundreds of people who have disappeared in Turkmen prisons. Catherine Cosman will speak to restrictions placed on religious freedom in the country as well as the treatment of religious minorities. 

Lunch will be provided.

  • Ruslan Myatiev is a journalist and founder of Alternative Turkmenistan News.
  • Kate Watters is co-founder and executive director of Crude Accountability.
  • Catherine Cosman is a senior policy analyst at the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.
  • Jeff Goldstein (moderator) is a senior policy analyst at the Open Society Foundations.
