The Conversations You Never Get to Hear

The documentary series How Democracy Works Now (trailer above), supported by the Open Society Institute, tells the behind-the-scenes story of the 21st-century debate over immigration in America. From lawmakers to union leaders, chamber of commerce representatives, lobbyists, and grass-roots activists on both sides of the issue, the film's creators were permitted to record private deliberations, phone conversations, and delicate strategy and negotiation sessions. An extraordinary range of people came to trust them, and, in many cases, inexplicably allowed them to film highly sensitive material for public broadcast.

The 12-part series premieres March 24 with "The Senators' Bargain" on HBO2 at 8PM ET/PT.
