Host organization: Reprieve
Maya Foa will identify and implement strategies designed to prevent the misuse of medicines in lethal injection executions in the United States.
Foa is director of the Death Penalty Team at Reprieve, an organization that provides free legal and investigative support to people around the world who face execution. Foa, a dual U.S.–UK citizen, is London-based and has played a key role in helping pharmaceutical companies protect their medicines from misuse in lethal injection executions. She has also been at the forefront of efforts to limit European counter-narcotics aid to countries that impose the death penalty for drug-related offenses. Before joining Reprieve, she was a theater director and writer, and worked for several years as a teacher in London and Paris. Foa studied French and Italian Literature at Magdalen College, Oxford, graduating with First Class Honors, and received her law degree from BPP University Law School.
