The Open Society Institute Baltimore Criminal Justice Program hosted a discussion with Soros Justice Fellow Nell Bernstein to mark the publication of her book, All Alone in the World: Children of the Incarcerated (New Press).

Bernstein s book describes the impact of the criminal justice system through the eyes of children who have parents in prison. The author puts a face on this often ignored population of 2.4 million American children. As Publisher's Weekly stated, "The message [of the book] is clear, taking family connections into account holds particular promise for restoring a social fabric rent by both crime and punishment.'"
